Building The Future Of Manufacturing & Supply Chains
April 17, 2025
Today we announced another milestone on our journey – we have signed a deal to be acquired by MISUMI. The deal is subject to regulatory review, and Fictiv will join MISUMI after closing.
When we founded Fictiv over 10 years ago, we envisioned a world where access to tools is ubiquitous and anyone can chase their dreams to accomplish the seemingly impossible–like building a rocket, solving climate change, or inventing the next lifesaving medical device. For this vision to be possible, we knew we needed to dramatically reduce the cost and time required to build and scale new products. We dreamed of hardware built at the speed of software.
Our journey to unlock the world’s creative potential to innovate has been shaped by listening to our customers. Their ingenuity and creativity inspire us to simplify how they source and manufacture their products, so they can continue to challenge the status quo to make a difference. They trust us to support their aspirations, and our daily mission is to earn and uphold that trust.
This guidance put us on a mission to simplify sourcing and build the world’s digital infrastructure for custom manufacturing. Customer adoption of our solution has grown at a staggering pace as we’ve invested in AI-driven technology workflows, developed a world-class global manufacturing network, and built teams of local manufacturing experts in every region we operate in.
To date, Fictiv has produced over 35 million commercial and prototype components for some of the world’s most innovative products across early-stage and large enterprises in the aerospace, robotics, clean energy, consumer, and automotive sectors. We are a global supply chain partner for custom mechanical components, supporting our customers from prototyping through production.
Today’s news is informed by the same guiding principle. Fictiv and MISUMI are both fueled by the belief that access to world-class manufacturing & supply chain capabilities needs to be easier, more accessible, more intelligent, and democratized, so more organizations can take their ideas from concept to reality.
Fictiv has achieved so much in the first decade of our journey, and we couldn’t be more grateful to our employees (Fictors), our Manufacturing Partners, and our customers who have enabled our success. The global supply chain environment is rapidly evolving, and so must we. The time is now.
We expect this change to enable us to expand our solution and scale our impact even faster. Becoming part of MISUMI is effectively super-charging our global physical infrastructure and capabilities. It will accelerate our ability to positively impact the world faster than what we could achieve as a standalone company.
Based in Japan, MISUMI is a global industrial supplier offering a vast product catalog of off-the-shelf manufacturing components (think shafts, couplings, gears, pins, punches, dies, actuators, and much more) with a unique capability to customize components to meet specific customer needs. MISUMI boasts over 80 sextillion (that’s 80 billion times a trillion!!) possible part configurations, which customers can specify via online catalogs and tools for component selection. MISUMI’s strict quality conformance (22 manufacturing sites globally), global logistics excellence (20 logistics sites globally), and scalability offered by digital tools and customization make it a leading resource for engineering & supply chain teams to procure standard and configurable components.
Together, we want to bring together the best of both worlds–digital + physical infrastructure to source custom + standard components through a single global platform offering world-class speed, price, and quality. A solution that enables you to build your entire BOM without the sacrifices and trade-offs of traditional supplier selection and management. MISUMI is one of the leading industrial suppliers in the world, and together we want to accelerate Fictiv and give every team innovating access to the most advanced manufacturing & supply chain solution in the world. We’re striving to build this to ensure a better future enabled by advancements in robotics, automation, climate technology, healthcare, and so much more. Today marks an important step towards that future.
Let’s keep building 🚀.
